Frequently asked questions.
What Qualifies someone for italian citizenship?
There are many different laws and details that must be taken into account in order to be eligible. Just because we have relatives from Italy (even parents) does not make us eligible for citizenship. This is always the first step to the Italian citizenship process and should be determined by a trusted professional who works in the industry and is familiar with the ever changing laws.Especially now that the eligibility requirements have changed in March of 2025.
Need your eligibility officially determined? Feel free to schedule an eligibility chat. These are dedicated to properly breaking down genealogical trees to determine if Italian citizenship will be something pursuable.
whats the ballpark cost to go through the court system?
We do not have a ballpark cost as each persons case is different from the next. Our quotes are provided on a case-by-case basis to those who inquire properly. Our quotes are based on type of case, amount of people in the folder and the amount of documents needed for the folder.
Whats the 1948 rule?
A 1948 case is when there is a woman in the bloodline who gave birth to a child before 1948.
Before 1948, women were not allow to pass Italian citizenship through their bloodline. Then, in 2009 , the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation deemed the law unconstitutional and discriminatory against women, allowing these types of cases to be heard. However, these cases, by law, must go through the court system in Italy. You would not be able to go through the consulate with a 1948 case.

Can I pursue italian citizenship if my great-grandparent is the one from italy?
The short answer is yes. Even though the Italian government implemented the generational cap in March of 2025, which limited only first and second generation to applying, if you happen to be fourth or fifth generation (and have an eligible bloodline) you can still apply for citizenship by suing for unconstitutionality via the court system. You are no longer able to go through the consulate with a case like this.
Fall out of the new generational cap? Visit our ‘Bypass My Consulate’ page for more information on how we can represent you.
Is there a residency requirement? Do i need to live in italy for some time?
No. There is no residency requirement for those pursuing citizenship via their bloodline, nor for those pursuing citizenship via marriage.
Can i acquire italian citizenship if i purchase real estate?
No. Purchasing property and Italian citizenship do not relate to each other. You can purchase property, but that does not mean you can stay in Italy past 90 days.

My Parent (or grandparent) is from Italy, am i eligible for italian citizenship?
Not necessarily. Just because you may have relatives from Italy, it does not mean you are automatically eligible for citizenship. Your eligibility would still need to be determined.
I was born in italy and renounced my italian citizenship. How can i get it back?
Reacquisition of citizenship is a relatively simple process and can only be done at the Italian consulate that falls under the jurisdiction where you’re legally residing. This is different than a citizenship appointment, as it’s considered a reacquisition appointment.
As of March of 2025, there is no longer a residency requirement of six months to one year for those looking to reacquire their citizenship. All you’d have to do is apply at your consulate. However, this must be done before December of 2027. Otherwise, they may reinforce the residency requirement again.
